The Happiest Place on Earth? How the People of Bali Created Paradise

Aug 13 2006

The island of Bali is a paradise created by its people. They live with a balance of masculine and feminine values, they celebrate very often, every Balinese seems to be an artist - and there seem to be smiles everywhere! How have the Balinese achieved a remarkable level of development - and happiness?

Economist, author and development expert Dr. Bernard Lietaer describes how people can contribute fully to society through balanced contributions of either work or money in a dual-currency system. Both work-based currency and conventional money allow everyone in the community to contribute what they can.

By allowing everyone to contribute fully, people's satisfaction with life is high, and they can create incredible projects for the public benefit. So people flourish - and seem, to many, the happiest people anywhere. Filmed at the BALLE conference in Burlington Vermont, at Champlain College.
